Pastor Daniel Lepley enjoys sharing Christ and walking with God's people through life. As a pastor, he gets a front-row seat to watch God work. He considers it a privilege to see how God's love touches others. He and his wife Wendi (a teacher) have four children: Isaac, Meghan, Carina and Markus. Favorite interests include all things family, outdoors and traveling. Pastor Lepley earned an undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from Concordia University Wisconsin with studies in Small Business Management and Administration. He graduated in 2007 with an M.Div from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne. He is a fellow of the Wabash Pastoral Leadership Institute.

Assistant Pastor


Pastor Matt loves to reach out to all people and share with them the good news of Jesus Christ. He finds great joy in talking to people, especially when he gets to preach and teach to his family here at our Shepherd! Pastor Matt has a wife, Tracie Douglas, and four children, Isaac, Levi, Eden, and Lydia. In his free time, he loves to spend time with his family, take walks, watch movies, and eat good food. Pastor Matt graduated from Concordia Chicago in 2008 with his BA in Elementary Education. After teaching for a time at Trinity Lutheran School in Grand Island, NE, he accepted his calling from God to pursue the Pastoral Office and so left Nebraska in 2012, traveling to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. On July 9, 2016, Pastor Matt was Ordained at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church and School and serves his family here with great joy!

Kim is a graduate of Purdue University with a BS degree in Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management. For over 18 years she worked in the hotel business for White Lodging where she held a variety of positions throughout her career. She and her husband, Mark, have been members of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church since 2002, and they have two children. Kyle is an engineer and lives in Louisville, KY, and Alexandria is attending Our Shepherd. Kim enjoys traveling, baking, and camping.

Joyce Zimmerman

Joyce Zimmerman graduated from Indiana University School of Music with a Bachelor of Music Education (choral and piano), and a Masters in Music Education. She feels very blessed to serve in a church where worship is a high priority, and where there is such a wonderful pipe organ, and so many people who share their God-given talents with the congregation. She enjoys working with singers, instrumentalists, ringers, and children's groups. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her three sons, their wives, seven grandchildren, traveling, snow skiing, biking, walking, and attending musical events like concerts and Broadway shows.

Kyle Borcherding

Worship Director


Kyle Borcherding enjoys seeing how music and theology intersect and complement one another, particularly in worship. He leads the contemporary band, the brass ensemble, and helps to plan worship services. Kyle is a graduate of Concordia University in Irvine, California, where he studied Theology, Worship Arts and Biblical Languages. His wife, Kelsey, works from home part-time while raising their son, Trevor. Kyle’s favorite activities include being outside and all things sports – especially baseball and ultimate frisbee. He is a native Texan, so watch out for his Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Baylor Bears!

Kim Mourer began as a very part-time Worship Tech. Her heart for ministry and dedication to improving our communications led her into the position of full-time Media Director. Her role is to get the good news of what God is doing at Our Shepherd to our members and people in our community. She is currently exploring ways for us to better leverage technology for the proclamation of the gospel.

Kim is a graduate of DePaul University with a BA in Political Science. She lives in Avon with her husband Jim and their two children. She enjoys gardening, baking, photography, traveling (especially to Israel!), and spending time outdoors with her family.

Heather Abernathy is our full-time Communications Assistant. While doing many of the tasks formerly done by our receptionist, her experience as a church secretary in Arkansas equips her to assist with member accounting, outreach and communications.

Mark Borcherding

DCE Consultant


Mark Borcherding is our contracted Discipleship Consultant. He is examining and evaluating all discipleship programs and developing a plan to bring them together into one discipleship process. A Center for Congregations grant has helped make his position possible. He and his wife Gwyn are new members at Our Shepherd and have just placed their roots in Avon.

Joel Marquardt began his one-year DCE internship with us in July 2017. His education and experience bring a fresh new perspective to the team ministry here at Our Shepherd. He is heavily involved in our Youth Ministry program, especially Confirmation Instruction, and he works alongside of Mark Borcherding to oversee Sunday School and Small Group Instruction.
