Early Childhood: Half-Day Program

Hello, and welcome to Early Childhood Half-Day at Our Shepherd!

2019-2020 School Year

Monday - Friday (half days)   8:25 a.m. - 11:30a.m.

The half-day early childhood program is designed to mirror the full-day program, but as a half-day option.  Independence is increased as learning expands to prepare them for Kindergarten and beyond.

Early Childhood Teacher

Kara has a degree in Elementary Education, and spent a couple years teaching elementary school, but found her passion in teaching Early Childhood. She began in Early Childhood Education in 2010. Her favorite thing about teaching is seeing a child complete a task on their own when he or she previously needed assistance. She and her husband live in Avon with their five-year-old daughter, three-year-old son, and dog. She enjoys camping, boating, and being outside, as well as reading, baking, crafting, and sewing.

Daily Class Outline

Each day class starts with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer.  Children are taught daily through words, music and actions that God loves them.  Faith is expressed daily and incorporated into all aspects of teaching.

Children will work on age-appropriate skill development through the following:

  • Differentiated instruction
  • Gross and fine motor skill development
  • Creative expression through art and music
  • Literacy activities
  • The Project Approach
  • Meaningful hands-on experiences including field trips and guest speakers
  • Guided, directed, and free choice play
  • Developmentally appropriate practices
  • One-on-one student/teacher time
